Ningiukulu Teevee

Born May 27, 1963, in Kinngait (Cape Dorset), Nunavut, Ningiukulu Teevee is one of the most versatile and celebrated artists to emerge from the Kinngait Studios. Known for her bold and expressive drawings, she draws on Inuit legends, Arctic wildlife, and everyday life to create work that is both visually striking and deeply rooted in her culture.

In 2009, her first children’s book, Alego, an autobiographical story of a young girl exploring the seashore with her grandmother, was published by Groundwood Books and shortlisted for the Governor General’s Literary Award for children’s illustration. Since her first prints appeared in 2004, Teevee has had numerous solo exhibitions, and her work has been featured in major public galleries and collections across Canada.

She balances her artistic practice with full-time work for the Department of Housing in Cape Dorset and family life.
