JOHN E MARRIOTT

John E. Marriott is an award-winning Canadian wildlife and nature photographer based in Canmore, Alberta, on the doorstep of Banff National Park. His connection to the Canadian Rockies began in September 1969, when he first visited Lake Louise at just one month old. By the age of six, he was photographing the region on family trips from Salmon Arm, British Columbia, sparking a lifelong passion for wildlife and the natural world.

Marriott’s professional photography career began in 1992, when he was hired by Parks Canada in Banff National Park to photograph people, wildlife, and mountain landscapes. Throughout the 1990s, he worked extensively throughout the frontcountry and backcountry of the Canadian Rockies, as well as along British Columbia’s coast, photographing grizzly bears and other wildlife.

Although his work has taken him to destinations including Yellowstone, Scotland, and Ireland, the majority of Marriott’s photography focuses on Canada. From the Pacific coast and Atlantic seaboard to the Arctic tundra of the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, he has documented the country’s remarkable wildlife and landscapes. His work is particularly rooted in the Canadian Prairies and the mountain wilderness of Alberta and British Columbia.

His images have appeared in numerous publications, including National Geographic Adventure, Canadian Geographic, Backpacker, and Reader’s Digest, and have been featured in a wide range of commercial applications. Through his photography, publications, and educational work, Marriott continues to share the beauty and diversity of Canada’s wild places, inspiring a deeper appreciation for the wildlife and landscapes that make the country unique.
