Inuit Graphics
There is no long history of drawing and printmaking in the Arctic making it relatively new since the tools used to create drawings and prints were not readily available until the middle of the 20th Century. Since the opening of the first print studio in Kinngait (Cape Dorset) in 1957 and the continued success of their annual collection release every year since that time, Canada House Gallery has actively promoted the development and production of print collections from various Inuit communities. Imagery includes very traditional scenes of hunting and life-survival to shamanic visions, Inuit legend and lore, stylized flora and fauna to contemporary Inuit life.
