Mathewsie Oshutsiaq
Mathewsie Oshutsiaq is an Inuit sculptor from Cape Dorset (Kinngait), Nunavut. He learned to carve by observing artists in his family and community and developed his skills through hands-on experience with stone. Oshutsiaq is best known for his expressive interpretations of Arctic wildlife and human figures, often characterized by strong forms and a sense of movement.
Working primarily in stone, his sculptures reflect both traditional Inuit subject matter and a personal, intuitive carving style. Oshutsiaq’s work has been exhibited in galleries across Canada and is held in private and public collections.
He lives and works in Cape Dorset, Nunavut.
