Jan Crawford

JAN CRAWFORD, BEd, BFA, AFCA

Jan Crawford is a professional artist who recently designed and built a studio at her Orchard in Penticton. Jan studied art in Vancouver receiving a B.ed , art major, from the University of British Columbia and a BFA, printmaking major from Emily Carr University. Today Jan teaches for the Federation of Canadian artists and is an AFCA Associate member. Her work has been exhibited in several juried exhibitions. During a decade of art schools, Jan studied under David Mayers, Peter Aspell and Lesley Poole. Today Jan is an instructor for the Foundations Program with The Federation of Canadian Artists. Jan also gives workshops on acrylics.

Artist Statement:

"My art making process has been about capturing cultural identity.
During the past three decades my artwork has included ceramic sculpture, original prints, photography and acrylic painting. The essence of my art centers around a distinctly Canadian heritage, of sweeping landscapes, archival orchards, and objects that have defined Okanagan culture.

My images of picking ladders, pails, boxes and fruit jars are not meant to
simply recall memory, but more importantly, to preserve history. These objects, symbolic in nature, represent how cultural identities are formed. Over the past century they have evolved into symbols of identity."
