Taqialuk Nuna
Taqialuk Nuna (also known as Taqialuq, Takialuk, or Tuk) is an Inuit sculptor from Cape Dorset, Nunavut, and the son of renowned artist Sharky Nuna. He learned to carve by observing family and community members and began making sculpture at a young age. Although he became more deeply engaged with carving in his late twenties, Nuna continues to balance his artistic practice with traditional hunting.
Nuna is known for his rounded, confident carving style, well suited to the animal and human subjects that are central to his work. He has participated in numerous carving workshops and continues to refine his approach to stone sculpture.
His work has been widely exhibited in Canada and internationally since the late 1970s and is held in major public collections, including the Inuit Art Centre (Ottawa) and the Inuit Cultural Institute (Rankin Inlet). Nuna’s work has also been featured in several important publications on Cape Dorset sculpture.
Born November 1, 1958, Taqialuk Nuna lives and works in Cape Dorset, Nunavut.
