Neepin Auger
Neepin Auger is a Cree artist, educator, author, and mother from Bigstone Cree Nation in Northern Alberta. She has been painting for more than two decades, having studied under her father, the late Dr. Dale Auger, a renowned Indigenous artist and Western Showcase Hall of Fame member. His influence helped shape her artistic journey and her deep connection to storytelling through visual art.
Auger holds a Bachelor of Education from Mount Royal University and a Master of Education from the University of Calgary. She is also the author and illustrator of the children’s book series Discovering Animals, Discovering Numbers, Discovering People, and Discovering Words, which celebrates Indigenous culture, language, learning, and identity.
At the heart of Auger’s work is storytelling. Her paintings honour her Cree heritage, the stories passed down through generations, and the landscapes that have shaped her identity. Using a bold and dynamic colour palette, she creates striking silhouettes that celebrate the vibrancy of Indigenous culture, family, tradition, and connection to the land.
Through colour and movement, Auger seeks to create work that not only honours where she comes from, but carries those stories forward for future generations.
