“I’ve spent hours in the wilderness close up to studying animals in their natural environment. I was a horseback guide for number of years, and we encountered many grizzlies on our hours in the saddle, traveling though alpine country. This scene showcases one of those late light moments where a final warm shaft of light drifts across an alpine slope. I really push the contrast for power and drama, and I’m pleased how this one came off. I built this piece up through many sessions in the studio and glazes.”
