Canada House Gallery is pleased to present For the Love of, a capsule collection of new works by Canadian artist Sarah Martin opening June 13.

Working through the intersection of memory, nostalgia, and contemporary experience, Martin transforms vintage photography through layers of paint and pattern, creating works that feel at once familiar and dreamlike. Her practice explores the fragile and shifting nature of memory, drawing viewers into moments suspended somewhere between past and present.

Using portraits, landscapes, and fleeting scenes in time, Martin reimagines forgotten or anonymous photographs with contemporary painted interventions that both preserve and disrupt the original image. The result is a body of work that invites reflection on the ways personal and collective memories evolve, fade, and reconnect through emotion and place.

For the Love of presents an intimate capsule collection that celebrates the tenderness of remembrance and the enduring emotional pull of moments we attempt to hold onto. Through layered surfaces and quiet storytelling, Martin creates works that feel deeply human — hovering delicately between what was, what is imagined, and what remains.
