Interestingly the red fish is called a 'Kokanee' the word comes from the Sinixt interior Salish word, kekeni, meaning “red fish”. They are technically a type of sock-eye salmon, (who migrate from oceans up stream to spawn every spring) but Kokanee are freshwater fish only, as they were cut off during the last ice age!
