ROGERS PASS - BC #3
Dieter Schlatter (1940–2020) was a Swiss-born, British Columbia–based artist whose richly layered paintings reflect a lifetime of creative exploration and intellectual depth. Beginning his artistic journey as a black-and-white photographer and published author in Europe, Schlatter later turned fully to painting in 1990, embracing it as his most powerful form of expression. Entirely self-taught, he developed a distinctive style rooted in art history yet deeply personal, creating moody, often conflicting landscapes and figurative works that evoke emotion and provoke thought. His compositions, shaped by a background in philosophy, literature, and visual storytelling, continue to resonate with viewers and collectors alike.
Dieter Schlatter’s work offers collectors a rare combination of European sensibility and West Coast influence, resulting in emotionally charged, timeless paintings that leave a lasting impression.
