Wilderness in Motion - Live painting Demo by Dominik Modlinski

On October 4th and 5th this year, Dominik will be giving a live painting demonstration at Canada House Gallery, working on new compositions inspired by his recent hikes in Alberta and British Columbia. Alongside the demo, visitors will have the chance to view a selection of his latest large-scale studio works as well as fresh plein air sketches painted in the field this September. Drop in to watch Dominik bring the Canadian mountains to life through his dynamic brushstrokes and distinctive colour harmonies. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to connect with him in person, hear about his adventures, and gain insight into his creative process and techniques.

Artist Statement:

As a Canadian landscape painter, I draw inspiration from the beauty of wilderness areas. Working in the plein air tradition, I immerse myself in remote landscapes—from the wild expanses of the Yukon to the rugged peaks of the Rockies and the sweeping vistas of West Coast, where the energy of nature drives both my brushwork and experimentation.

These direct experiences with nature shape my studio practice, guiding me to paint not just what I saw, but what I felt in the wilderness.

My paintings are both a celebration of these pristine places and a reminder of their fragility in the face of climate change and human impact. Through my work, I hope to stir a sense of wonder, foster a deeper connection to the natural world, and inspire a shared commitment to protecting it for future generations.
