SOMMET DE LIBERTÉ
Canadian painter Robert Roy is celebrated for his vibrant expressionist paintings that capture the energy, colour, and emotion of everyday life. Born in Sainte-Perpétue, Québec in 1957, Roy discovered his passion for painting as a teenager and quickly devoted himself to mastering the craft. His early inspiration came from his father’s interest in art, leading Roy to spend countless hours experimenting with colour, movement, and composition.
Roy later studied art at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières and began exhibiting his work across Canada. Travel has played a significant role in shaping his artistic vision; journeys throughout North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia exposed him to the rich diversity of global city life and landscapes, themes that continue to inform his work today.
Working primarily in oil, Roy paints with a dynamic, expressive style characterized by bold colour, fluid brushwork, and a strong sense of movement. His compositions often depict lively street scenes, winter sports, and iconic Canadian landscapes from bustling urban moments to the majestic peaks of the Rocky Mountains. Each painting aims to capture a fleeting moment and translate the artist’s joy of living onto canvas.
Today, Robert Roy’s work is collected internationally and appreciated for its sense of vitality, warmth, and spontaneity. His paintings invite viewers to experience the spirit of a place and the emotional energy of the moment, an expression of the artist’s belief that art, like life, should be lived with passion and joie de vivre.
