Jean Pilch's paintings and drawings are studio work, taking several weeks to complete, and are based on reference photos taken on her photographic and hiking excursions.
"During this time of self-isolation, I have been spending a lot of time in my studio. I decided it was a good time to do a larger painting and the first is “Climbing Wiwaxy”, 20x28”, acrylic on canvas. It is from a photo I took ten years ago, hiking my first portion of the Alpine Route at Lake O’Hara. I thought it needed to be a large painting to do justice to the view. We were nearing the top on Wiwaxy, looking down at one of the little lakes that step down from Lake Oesa. The Huber Ledges were still ahead. What a wonderful hike and I had fun doing the painting too!"
