"When the prairies are lucky enough to have good snow cover in winter, spring might lag a bit, but the prairie flora always needs the protection and moisture. Red willow, poplars and open blue sky reflect in fresh meltwater. A slight breeze ripples the surface, abstracting the tree lines while a few last lumps of snow are about to melt into the water. In the foreground, delicate branches arch and draw their shadows on the white canvas of snow. The reds and golds of branches and clinging leaves are welcome colour in late winter."
