ROCK PATTERNS ALONG LK O'HARA
Lake O’Hara is a grand jewel in Yoho National Park and a subject I love portraying in oil paint. Walking the shores there is a beautiful view around every corner. This composition portrays Mt. Odaray from a rocky outcrop of lichen covered boulders. I loved the patterns and abstract nature of the subject set off by the snow-covered mountain beyond. Working on a large scale allows me to really push the paint around creating powerful brushwork and colour. Hiking one day around the lake as well as venturing to Lake Oesa, I gathered reference that I was able to use in this piece. I have hundreds of crayon studies from the area, so I’ll definitely revisit O’Hara as a subject.
