from the ‘Deeper Roots’ series*
A busy street in Langley, BC, has recently become a symbol of my fascination with ‘the sprawl’. On one side of the street is still wild, 120 acres of parkland. There are evergreens, a marsh, unpruned fruit trees and wildlife. The other side of the street has no houses on it either, but there is a huge real estate sign commanding attention.
*Deeper Roots” series is inspired by seeing old trees torn up to make room for new construction. Since these trees are captured in my photos, paintings and memories, I hoped the name Deeper Roots would extend their existence beyond now. While I know that change is necessary for growth, I cannot help but think a little piece of innocence and the past is lost during the process. |
