I spent a good part of a day wandering along the shoreline of Lk. O’Hara in Yoho Park sketching, painting, and soaking in the beauty. In my paintings, I try to find my personal viewpoint and move away from just a “pretty picture”. I find mountains and alpine angles powerful and as I worked as a horseback guide, I got many hours to study patterns and shapes. My style has evolved as I dig deep and find my personal viewpoint as well as the character of my subject. I use big angular strokes and colours that represent a mood that I felt as I sat sketching on site. It’s important to return often to a subject and witness the subtle changes through all seasons.
