I’ve spent so much time in all weather in the Lake Louise region and have been inspired to paint as well as sketch its majestic beauty. The main face of Victoria Glacier is known by many and I find myself looking for “off the cuff” scenes that happen out of accident. It’s easy to just focus on the well known and heavily photographed vistas. I completed many crayon studies on my last visit to the region and back in the studio I knew this composition could go big. I love painting alpine sidehills of scree and boulders with colourful underbrush with a mountain backdrop. There are strong patterns and I feel powerful brushwork giving the look of a plein air sketch.
