Inspired by spending May in Banff, the exceptional Dr Jane Ash Poitras turned to local indigenous groups to inspire her latest works. Heavy with narrative; the combination of text, photography and paint draw you into a dialogue, inspiring you to discover more about the history of indigenous groups across Canada.
Tsuutʼina (Sarcee) is spoken by the people of the Tsuutʼina Nation. The Tsuut'ina reside in reserves close to Calgary, Alberta. Sarcee is part of the broader Athabaskan language family, which also includes Navajo, Chiricahua, Dene Suline and Tłı̨chǫ.
"I think that the role of an artist today is to become free, to transcend. Then they can transform, enlighten and become empowered." Jane Ash Poitras
